Why Are You Here?
It really is a simple question, and an important one which we should take a moment to ask ourselves now and then. A few moments of quiet, honest reflection on this question can help to evaluate different facets of life. It is important to remember to stop and consider major areas such as relationships, careers, residences, financial position, religion, hobbies, and habits.
If you think about it, this question can be asked with four very different connotations:
WHY are you here?
Why ARE you here?
Why are YOU here?
Why are you HERE?
Please feel free, in a moment of quiet reflection, to ask yourself those question out loud, with that emphasis, and you may see my point. *Asking these questions aloud is not recommended if the reader is in certain situations, such as a hospital emergency department, in line at a TSA checkpoint, or on a first date. Following is more detail on the 4 facets of the one simple question.
WHY asks about your purpose, motivation and reasons.
Are considers the cost vs. benefit equation, or more bluntly, "What's in it for me?". It relates to both the WHY and the YOU.
YOU is about the skills, talents, abilities, and attributes which you bring to the situation under discussion. It is very personal, and includes not only your personal history, but your future goals as well.
HERE is specific to the current situation. This part is related the ARE question.
As I reflect on this question, I have come to realize that actually ALL of the parts relate to one another. This really is a very simple question, and considered from a certain perspective, can offer surprising depth and insight.
Good luck and best wishes.
